How things are going and what will come next!
How it is going
I have very little experience releasing games, on itch or elsewhere and these are some things I have noticed, some that were written under my nose, but just now that I understand it:
- Itch will show your game on “latest released” in multiple tags
- Your Capsule Art will be important in capturing people’s attention and increasing your CTR
- So, choose well your art, description and screenshots
- After this initial launch promotion your views will drop quickly
I focused too much in “making the game” and “learning to create”, that I neglected things like the art, description, etc.
I don’t know if there is room for a second wind of views from updating the game and posting devlogs.
I will update the game once, and then move to making Harmonic Clash, as I think I have more to gain by going through the development/release cycle again and again rather than putting a lot of effort in improving Quacktory. As I don’t think the game will be able to call a lot of attention to it anymore.
This is my analytics dashboard for Quacktory atm:
ok… now what am I going to update in Quacktory?
Update
The major complaints I had for the game were:
- Character controls felt bad, the character was sliding too much
- What should I do?
- How to craft?
- I spawned at sea
- How can I save the game?
- Belt snapping range is too large
So these are the changes:
- No player sliding while moving
- Title screen showing a factory running (as a hint on what to do)
- Better UI for items in crafting range
- Fixed spawning bug
- Save/load game
- Reduced belt snapping range
I am also adding a few more things for content:
- Belt tunnel, for crossing two belts
- Belt merger,
- Belt splitter / filter
- Automatically outputting items from storage unit to connected output belts
I am removing a thing too:
- Sword, as it serves no purpose atm
If you have suggestions or critics, this is the time to tell me as it may enter the update!
Have a good day! marcel0ll
